Food & Product Photographer in New York

I photograph food, drinks and products for restaurants and brands. My photographs raise the average check, and I take the whole job off your hands: from the idea to finished files, printed menus and publishing.

One team from the first idea to the printed menu

I work with a designer, a developer, a retoucher and a video editor, so you get finished menus, listings and posts rather than a folder of files.

  1. 01

    Concept

We start from your guests and your numbers, and agree what the photographs have to do before the shoot is booked.

  2. 02

    Shoot

Food, drinks, products, the room and the people, photographed and filmed on the same set during the same session.

  3. 03

    Design and print

Menus, sell sheets and packaging mockups laid out by our designer and checked before they go to press.

  4. 04

    Publish

The website, an online menu with ordering connected to your point-of-sale system, delivery apps, Google Maps and Amazon.

  5. 05

    Numbers

If you share your sales after launch, the next shoot starts from what those figures show.

What the photographs did to my clients' sales

63–78%

more sales of the photographed dish

27–36%

higher average check with photos in the menu

12%

growth of the business as a whole

As reported by clients from their own sales reports. The three figures measure different things: one dish, the average check and total revenue.

What restaurants reported afterwards

+24% · +31%

Hi Alex, I hope you're well. I took the statistics you requested after renovating our menu with your photos. Our bill has grown 24% at Namo and 31% at Gaylord.

+27%

You requested analytics about dishes with photos you took. Last month, we sold out 27% more than before. Thank you for a good job, Alex!

Pino Lavarra
Chef, Tosca, Hong Kong
70 / 30

Alex, thank you so much for your work. If we compare the reports from our last shoot with the same period the previous year, the sales of the dishes we photographed increased. The percentage ratio is 70/30

Video for food and drink brands

Alex Slyadnev

I have worked as a commercial photographer for twenty years, and food has been at the center of that work for more than a decade. I have worked for Larousse Gastronomique and photographed six cookbooks through to print.

Every frame is approved on set while the dish is still in front of us, and in twenty years no client has asked me for a reshoot. I live and work in New York, and new work goes up on Instagram at @slyadnev.nyc.

Real food on camera, AI around it

  1. 01

    Your dishes, for real

We photograph real food. AI never draws your dishes, because guests compare the picture with the plate and say so in their reviews.

  2. 02

    AI before the shoot

Moodboards and rough layouts let you see the idea and sign off on it in advance.

  3. 03

    AI after the shoot

Background variations, extra formats for each platform, and voice-over or translation for video.

Tell me about the project

I quote by the shoot day and send a written estimate within 24 hours. Write a few words about the job and I will come back with a plan.

How much does a shoot cost?
It depends on the number of dishes or products, the locations and where the images will run, and I price it by the full or half shoot day.
How soon can you shoot, and when do we get the files?
We set the date on the first call and plan backwards from any print or launch deadline. Retouched files arrive within two weeks of the shoot.
How can we use the photographs?
The usage license is a separate line in the estimate, next to the shoot day: which channels, for how long and in which territory.
Do you work outside Manhattan?
I work across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey City and Hoboken, and travel for larger projects further away.
Do you shoot for Amazon?
I shoot the main image, infographics, lifestyle frames, A+ content and the Brand Store, lit and styled to the same standard as a campaign.
